Cause for Celebration

In the week that the Paul Magnus Memorial Golf Day was hosted, Olly Magnus scoops the prestigious Director of the Year award at the Suffolk Business Awards.

September was a great month for Magnus Group. It saw Olly Magnus scooping the main prize at the Suffolk Business Awards on 29th September and the company’s charity golf day raising much-needed funds for GeeWizz.

Awarded one of the most prestigious awards of the evening, Olly beat off stiff competition to win the Director of the Year award at the black-tie event hosted at Kesgrave Hall, Ipswich.

He says: “I am still a bit speechless about it all. It is a huge personal honour for me, but I could not have done it without the support and hard work of everyone at Magnus Group and my family.

“It is incredibly humbling and makes all the hard work and risks worthwhile.”

With the judges recognising how the business’ fortunes have transformed under Olly’s leadership and since the death of his father Paul in 2018, the company now boasts a headcount of 150, split between the company’s Great Blakenham HQ and its offices at the Port of Felixstowe.

Having rebranded, restructured, expanded its warehouse operations, and updated the fleet since heading up the company, Olly continues: “Our ethos is all about people-first. Ensuring the team is on board with our mission and values; this then shines through in the levels of customer service we provide.”

Last week also saw Magnus Group employees, clients and friends head out to Hintlesham Hall Golf Club to participate in the Paul Magnus Memorial Golf tournament.

Olly says: “The day was a great success with 64 players playing as 16 teams.

“Congratulations must go to Callen Newman from 3PL, who scooped the individual prize and the guys from Astral Global Logistics, who won the team category. Most importantly, we raised £800 for GeeWizz, a charity that does amazing things in its support of children and young adults across the region who are learning disabled, neurodivergent or have a life-limiting illness or cancer.

“And to end a pretty perfect day and week, footballers Russell Osman and Simon Milton, and local boxing supremo, Fabio Wardley answered questions from the floor in a much appreciated Q&A session.”
