Going FOR(S) GOLD at Bacton Transport

Delighted to announce its successful attainment of FORS Gold Status, Shaun Appleby, General Manager, Health & Safety at the Bury St Edmunds-based logistics and transportation company, shares the benefits of securing Gold.

“This accomplishment signifies the company’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards when it comes to safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. However, with the whole process far from a walk in the park, our success required a huge effort from both our drivers, management team and Seven Training’s team, who kept us all on track.”

The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) is a voluntary accreditation scheme that promotes best practices for fleet operators in the UK. It sets rigorous benchmarks for vehicle safety, driver training, and environmental performance. By achieving FORS Gold status, Bacton Transport has demonstrated its dedication to meeting and exceeding these standards, ensuring the utmost safety and professionalism in its operations.

Shaun continues:  “In total, a staggering 1100 hours of driver training was notched up in association with Seven Training.  And a further 40 hours of management training was required to achieve the FORS gold practitioner standard.”

With the work that went into achieving gold already delivering significant benefits (including a visible return to better driving standards and a much-welcomed increase in mpg across the fleet), the company also made good use of the evidence templates provided by FORS, as well as it’s easy to follow evidencing portal, both of which made a huge difference to the administration aspects gaining accreditation.

FORS Gold not only solidifies Bacton Transport’s position as one of the region’s most reliable and responsible logistics partners but publicly reiterates the company’s commitment to prioritising safety and sustainability throughout its operations.  Shaun adds: “Safety has always been at the top of our agenda, and the recent installation of five-way camera systems, near-side blind spot sensor monitoring and audible left turn and reverse sounders on all our vehicles, further demonstrates that FORS is very much part of Bacton’s DNA.”
