Goldstar Driving Academy Shines

Over 85% first-time pass rate.

Since its relaunch in November 2021 post-pandemic, the Goldstar Driving Academy is back in business.

Mark Liggins, Goldstar Transport’s training manager, explains: “Having launched the academy back in 2015, we’re delighted to welcome driver students again. And since reopening, nineteen newly qualified drivers are now on the road and the Goldstar payroll.”

With a designated test centre, based in Woolpit, near Bury St Edmunds, Goldstar Transport undertakes all training in house and employs two DVSA qualified examiners and three qualified instructors. Once qualified, new drivers are guaranteed a job at a depot of their choice earning excellent wages, driving top-spec vehicles and benefiting from a further two to three-week mentoring programme.

Mark Liggins continues: “We design each training course, based on an upfront driving assessment and previous experience. It ranges from approximately one to two weeks – intensive driver training followed by the test. We don’t test until our instructors say we are ready; our students are not set up to fail. We are consistently achieving a first-time pass rate of over 85%.”

Keen to do everything possible to tackle the driver shortage head-on, Goldstar Transport knows how important it is to invest in the next generation of HGV drivers.

In summary, Goldstar general manager James Sayers says: “We must widen the talent pool and promote the opportunity to work in this sector. We are appealing to the long term unemployed, young, or female applicants who may have been put off by the costs of training or the work-life balance.

“We are a people business, and the role our drivers play as ambassadors for the company is significant.”

Goldstar Transport would like to hear from anyone considering entering the industry or retraining as a driver. Full details about the Goldstar Driving Academy and the online application form can be found here.
