Operators, have your say on electric HGV rules – RHA launches payload surveySurvey seeks real-world data to address BEV payload challenges and inform future regulations.
The Road Haulage Association (RHA) is urging commercial vehicle operators to help shape the future of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) rules by taking part in a new industry survey.
Following its recent Net Zero Survey, the RHA is now focusing on BEV productivity and payload challenges – a key barrier for many businesses considering the switch to zero-emission vehicles. With electric vehicle batteries significantly heavier than diesel engines, payload capacity is reduced, creating operational and financial pressures, particularly for smaller firms.
The survey asks operators to share real-world operational data, including payloads, stem distances, shift patterns, and anticipated BEV uptake. This information will inform industry efforts to influence government policy, including potential changes to vehicle weight and length regulations, making the transition to electric vehicles more viable for fleets of all sizes.
RHA Managing Director Richard Smith said:
“We want to hear from operators across the country to ensure the government understands current BEV realities and practical barriers, and to ensure regulations incentivise and support a fair and viable transition towards Net Zero.”
