How A&S Recruitment’s specialist desk and Erin Williams’ success showcase the growing role of women in shaping the industry’s future.

At Porttalk, we’re always keen to spotlight industry stories that inspire and innovate. This month, we’re thrilled to feature an interview with Erin Williams, who stepped into a Senior Business Development role at Astral Global Logistics earlier this year, and Becky Crevald, the driving force behind A&S Recruitment’s newly launched senior and specialist desk.

Erin’s placement is a testament to Becky’s expertise in matching top talent with leading roles, a process that has become a hallmark of A&S Recruitment’s specialised services. As we discuss Erin’s career journey and Becky’s vision for the new desk, we also celebrate women’s growing prominence in logistics and their vital contributions to the industry.

Here, we share their stories, explore the evolving landscape of recruitment, and champion the power of women in logistics.

Erin, congratulations on your new role at Astral Global Logistics. Please share a bit about your journey into logistics and what drew you to the Senior Business Development role.

Thank you. My journey into logistics started when I was just 17, taking my first steps as an apprentice. In between perfecting my tea-making skills, I discovered a genuine passion for the industry and its many facets. Over the years, I’ve embraced various roles, from apprentice to air freight coordinator, each shaping my expertise and fuelling my enthusiasm.

Along the way, I’ve built lasting relationships and a loyal client base, which have been incredibly rewarding. When the opportunity to join Astral Global Logistics as Senior Business Development Manager came along, it was a perfect match. AGL’s stellar reputation and drive to keep growing professionally made this an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.

How did A&S Recruitment, particularly Becky Crevald, support you through the hiring process for this role?

Becky from A&S Recruitment was an incredible support throughout the hiring process. From our very first conversation, we connected on both a professional and personal level. Her confidence in my abilities and her unwavering guidance made all the difference. Becky provided invaluable advice and championed my potential, making the process seamless and encouraging. I’m deeply grateful for her support, and in addition to securing a fantastic role, I’ve gained a lifelong friend.

Becky, the senior and specialist desk at A&S Recruitment, launched earlier this year. What inspired the creation of this desk, and how does it cater to candidates like Erin?

Launching the senior and specialist desk at A&S Recruitment stems from my extensive commercial experience spanning over 25 years in sales, training, and management. I saw an opportunity to elevate A&S by creating a platform that bridges highly skilled candidates with exceptional opportunities. At its core, this desk combines my passion for helping people with my expertise to deliver a truly personalised recruitment experience.

Working with candidates like Erin is particularly rewarding. By dedicating time to understanding the client’s needs and the candidates’ aspirations, I aim to create the perfect match that benefits both parties. This desk offers tailored career advice, exclusive job opportunities, and a supportive approach to navigating career transitions. Erin’s journey is a testament to the desk’s mission, and it’s been inspiring to watch her thrive in her new role.

Women in logistics are shaping the industry’s future. Erin, as a woman in a senior role, what advice would you give to others aspiring to grow in this field?

The progress women have made in logistics is genuinely inspiring. It’s incredible that not long ago, women weren’t even allowed at prominent industry events like the London Freight Club. Today, the landscape is changing, and women are not just participating but shaping the future of logistics. I’m proud to be part of that transformation.

Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to have strong female mentors who’ve guided and encouraged me and their support has been invaluable. My advice to women aspiring to grow in this field is simple: believe in yourself and your abilities. Be authentic, stay confident, and don’t hesitate to pursue your desired opportunities. With determination and hard work, there are no limits to what you can achieve in this dynamic industry.

Becky, what trends are you noticing in the demand for senior and specialist logistics roles, and how is A&S Recruitment positioned to meet these needs?

The demand for senior and specialist logistics roles is growing rapidly, driven by the industry’s focus on automation, sustainability, and advanced technology. Companies seek professionals with expertise in supply chain optimisation, AI, and green logistics to stay ahead in an increasingly competitive market.

At A&S Recruitment, we are uniquely positioned to meet these evolving needs. Our tailored recruitment approach and strong industry connections allow us to identify and match top-tier candidates with the right opportunities.
