Shore Logistics Ltd

Your passion for the industry came through in your BBC Look East interview last week; what is it about logistics that you love?
I have always had a passion for pleasing my customers, for helping them with the complex challenges they face, we are a team, and there’s nothing we cannot overcome.

With the current upheavals around the lack of drivers, how do you deal with the inevitable tricky conversations that need to be had?
It is a big concern, and I have had to have honest conversations with my customers about where we go from here and how we can ensure there is a limited impact on our service. We will need to work together to overcome this current crisis. I am also in constant discussion with my sub-contractors, ensuring we give them as much stability as possible.

And if you could speak with the Government, what would you ask them to do to overcome the HGV driver shortage?
As with many industries, there is a big hole to fill, and if we do not address this situation now, it will only continue to worsen. We need immediate action to stabilise the unprecedented wages hikes. For many companies, this will not be sustainable.

What advice would you give any women looking at the sector as a career opportunity?
Only 1% of HGV drivers in the UK are female. We need more women to join the sector, not only in an office environment but also out on the road. I believe they bring softness and calm to the industry, which can appear daunting to people outside the sector.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
With the incredible staff, the dedicated drivers, and wonderfully supportive customers we have, I hope Shore Logistics will continue to strive in all its ventures. Who knows, we may have a few lady drivers with us too.

After a hard week, I love nothing more than having a silent disco at home! Music really does heal everything.
