And the Award Goes to.… Goldstar’s Tilbury Truckstop

First Park Mark Freight Award presented in Essex and all within the first three months of opening.

A company passionate about the welfare and facilities of UK truck drivers, April this year saw Goldstar Transport putting its money where its mouth is and the opening of the Goldstar Tilbury Truckstop, just off the A1089.

Available for use by all truck drivers in the area, the Felixstowe-based company has this month been recognised for its efforts and awarded the Park Mark Freight Award.

Park Mark Freight is a new and comprehensive assessment (managed by police crime prevention initiatives and the British Parking Association) specifically for lorry parks and truck stops and developed in response to the rise in cargo theft in recent years and the Department for Transport’s policies for improving roadside facilities for drivers.

Receiving the award on 4th July, Goldstar’s truck stop was rigorously inspected, and a full audit was undertaken. With Essex Police involved in the audit, the company had to meet specific criteria, including

  • Secure Fence and full CCTV with HD cameras
  • 24/7 manned security
  • Clearly marked truck bays and signage
  • Clearly marked pedestrian walkways
  • Well-lit parking and perimeter

With only ten awards presented to date, and the Goldstar Tilbury truck stop the first to receive the award in Essex, the company’s general manager, Steve Jones, says: “We are passionate about providing quality, safe and secure parking facilities for our driving force. The facility in Tilbury has allowed us to extend our offerings to the broader HGV community, and we are very proud of all we have achieved.

“Receiving the Park Mark Freight Award is a real honour, especially as the facility has only been open a matter of months.”

Ian Wilson, BPA Area Manager, adds: “I am delighted that the Goldstar transport site in Tilbury has achieved the Park Mark Freight award. Steve and his team have demonstrated their hard work and commitment to providing a safe environment for users. It’s a fantastic site and deserves to be the first one in Essex to receive this award.”
